I attend the Peace Summit Luncheon on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm. The invite was from Mame Mbaye, Peace Ambassador from Senegal, and the Global Prosperity and Peace Initiative,

The luncheon took place in the Tom Bradley Tower Room at Los Angeles City Hall, 200 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

It was certainly fantastic event

For this Member Monday, we are highlighting @unwomenla's Ambassador, Soraya Fallah.
CSUN grad Soraya Fallah conducted groundbreaking research on students with disabilities that should benefit students across the world. Her subject: children with disabilities from Middle Eastern, North African and Southwest Asian backgrounds. Many of them grew up in war zones, in countries such as Iran, Iraq, Israel, Palestine, Sudan and Syria. Some are born with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. Other injuries and issues were born of explosions and gunfire

Ralph D.Fertig and his new book

I wrote about him: What a wonderful achievement: Fertig transmutes experiences of chaos on an international scale while caring for his family and community into plans and dreams for the future.

Dr. Ralph D. Fertig, JD, ACSW’ book A Passion for Justice: One Man's Dedication to Civil Rights released this month. I can’t deny my happiness for being very proud and blessed to be part of this book, a subject matter expert for chapter on Kurdish problem; Human Rights and National Security:Kurdistan; the Humanitarian Law Project; Litigation.

This book is an autobiography of his fight for civil rights, near 9 decades of life full of lessons and mentorship . If you don’t know him,just a little bit about him: Dr. Ralph D. Fertig, JD, ACSW a Clinical Professor of University of Southern California School of Social Work, aU.S. Administrative Judge (Ret.),President, Humanitarian Law Project (a permanent consultant to the United Nations Human Rights Commission),and Commissioner, Los Angeles City Ethics Commission. In his book “Ralph D. Fertig documents origins and episodes in the Civil Rights Movement. He has been a steady and consistent advocate for civil rights through non-violent direct action in most of his 88 years. We met in the 1961 Freedom Rides and in his book, A Passion for Justice, Fertig chronicles struggles for desegregation before, through and since then. In the current political climate, this is a book for today.”( John Lewis, US Congressman”

A few years ago while he was challenging Supreme Court I interviewed him and created a short documentary.

I am honored to have an amazing friend, a role model, and a mentor like Ralph D.Fertig . I am humble that he wrote about me to my doctoral department: “I have known Soraya Fallah and worked with her since 2003 in international and domestic forums and in all that time I have steadily marveled at her intellect, resourcefulness, industriousness, and effectiveness. We have attended meetings and conferences together and I have had ample opportunity to observe her presenting complex matters. She is always clear, focused, reasoned, and thorough.

Passionate in her advocacy, she approaches her subject matter from a well researched and studied preparation. Thus, she has justifiably established great credibility and has been repeatedly been elected to leadership positions in the United States and abroad by persons representing a broad range of points of view. She is universally held in deep esteem.
